URGENT
The Federal government is proposing major changes to the rules around historic preservation, known as Section 106 for the part of the National Historic Preservation Act that authorizes the regulations. This will have marked negative impacts on historic preservation and archaeology, and generally muck up construction projects with Federal interests as well. Currently, the proposed changes are still being reviewed, and there will be a period for public comment presumably soon. I have written more about this here, including links to additional perspectives and information.
